#51: The Silence of the Lambs

Our first movie chosen at random from the patented Movie Bucket is The Silence of the Lambs, a film so endless quoted and referenced in pop culture that it’s basically part of our DNA now. But the movie came out in 1991, so how does it hold up after all these years?

From IMDB: “A young FBI cadet must receive the help of an incarcerated and manipulative cannibal killer to help catch another serial killer, a madman who skins his victims.”

Cast:
Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling
Scott Glenn as Jack Crawford
Anthony Heald as Dr. Frederick Chilton
Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Hannibal Lecter
Ted Levine as Jame Gumb (Buffalo Bill)

Director:
Jonathan Demme

#40: “Sicario”

It may seem like we picked “Sicario” to be topical, what with all the talk of American border security lately. But nope! We just wanted to watch Emily Blunt kick ass.

From IMDB: “An idealistic FBI agent is enlisted by a government task force to aid in the escalating war against drugs at the border area between the U.S. and Mexico.”

Cast:
Emily Blunt as Kate Macer
Benicio Del Toro as Alejandro
Josh Brolin as Matt Graver
Jon Bernthal as Ted
Daniel Kaluuya as Reggie Wayne

Director:
Denis Villeneuve

Matthew McConaughey stars in the sort-of biopic about…you guessed it…GOLD. He goes full method actor and gets fat and goes bald and yet we still would…

From IMDB: “Kenny Wells, a prospector desperate for a lucky break, teams up with a similarly eager geologist and sets off on a journey to find gold in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia”

Cast:
Matthew McConaughey as Kenny Wells

#34: “Die Hard” – A Christmas Movie?

“Die Hard” is one of the most famous action movies of all time, known for it’s badass cop John McClane taking down a group of German terrorists while barefoot.  Also, Bruce Willis has hair. So that’s weird to see.

From IMDB: “John McClane, officer of the NYPD, tries to save his wife Holly Gennaro and several others that were taken hostage by German terrorist Hans Gruber during a Christmas party at the Nakatomi Plaza in Los Angeles.”

Cast:
Bruce Willis – John McClane
Bonnie Bedelia – Holly Gennaro McClane

Alan Rickman – Hans Gruber

Director:
John McTiernan
